About this deal

Carroll's volume is bound by distinctive pink bonded leather, with black illustration and gold leaf embellishment; "Beautiful" is an understatement when describing this collection; it's exquisite - to say the least! Alice drinks a portion of the bottle's contents, and to her astonishment, she shrinks small enough to enter the door. The title page of the Appleton Alice was an insert cancelling the original Macmillan title page of 1865 and bearing the New York publisher's imprint and the date 1866.

The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. Publication timeline [ edit ] In 1907, the copyright on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland expired in the UK, entering the tale into the public domain. Carroll began writing the manuscript of the story the next day, although that earliest version is lost. And in the aftermath of my thoughts I decided that the other stories in this book, I can either read later or just ignore since I don't have the motivation or desire to actually read them. Also included are the original, iconic illustrations by John Tenniel and an introduction by Lori Campbell.Appearing at a time when children’s literature generally was intended to teach moral lessons, the book at first baffled critics, who failed to appreciate the nonsense that so captivated its young readers. Ensimmäinen puolisko oli hyvin hämmentävä, kun tuntui että peräkkäiset luvut eivät mitenkään kertoneet samaa tarinaa. Before crawling away, the Caterpillar says that a bite of one side of the mushroom will make her larger, while a bite from the other side will make her smaller. But I didn't try to analyze every situation and character and I just enjoyed the absurd nature of the novel.

For a true book lover, the appeal and visual presentation of the book is just right (the stories within contain the original illustrations by celebrated John Tenniel). The pre-loved books are carefully cleaned and maintained offering a wide variety of general and specialist titles from children's to adults. The characters are eccentric and odd, but are juxtaposed with ‘nonsensical’ wisdom that make them so lovable and creative.

The published version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is about twice the length of Alice's Adventures Under Ground and includes episodes, such as the Mad Tea-Party, that did not appear in the manuscript. Nina Auerbach discusses how the novel revolves around eating and drinking which "motivates much of her [Alice's] behaviour", for the story is essentially about things "entering and leaving her mouth. This tome not only looks and feels opulent (from the leather cover to the golden-edged pages), it is also a great value-for-money tome, it includes all the adventures of Alice, loads of stories and interpretations and notes for committed Lewis Carroll enthusiasts.

This is an amazing book, it creates an entire new world and you follow the story of Alice, you are just as confused as she is with the nonsense rules and lack of physics that occur in wonderland! It is an account of "the child's plight in Victorian upper-class society" in which Alice's mistreatment by the creatures of Wonderland reflects Carroll's own mistreatment by older people as a child. It's well done that way - like when you're having a dream and a pink elephant walks in, you just accept it and start up a conversation.

out loud every time Bruno said "welly" for "really" or "oo" for "you" or made precious little grammatical mistakes.
