About this deal

Uncle Nat largely fades to the background, and personally, that's for the best; Hal's relationship with the kids is fun to watch, and while a larger cast means he (and consequently, we) have less time to build ties to any of the characters introduced as we have in previous iterations, the side-characters are still largely memorable and play their own role in the story without seeming like fluff pieces there to drift about. It adds another layer of danger to the book because they also had to remember their cover while investigating - and Nat has secrets that he's not telling Hal. Danger at Dead Man's Pass is the 4th-installment of my favorite Middle Grade series, Adventures on Trains. De familie Kratzenstein is een heel uitgebreide familie en ik ben Elisa Paganelli dan ook heel dankbaar dat ze de moeite heeft genomen om in naam van Alex een stamboom te tekenen, want ik kon hem gebruiken. At first it was really confusing trying to get my head around all of the characters and how they were all connected and then after the 100 page mark the plot just got a little bit too ridiculous for me.

A curse, a very strange family, a missing will, witches, a spooky castle and a steam train gave great background to the story which was as always beautifully illustrated by Elisa Paganelli. Hal's interest in trains is a huge benefit to him here but he must disguise his detective abilities (which also means his art) to help crack the case.I have read each entry within hours of getting it, swept away by all the clues and red-herrings, and the general adventure of being aboard a train. Legend has it the Kratzensteins, a family of rich and powerful railway tycoons, are cursed, but there is no such thing as a curse, is there . There's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes in terms of plot, structure, and simply getting everybody into the right place at the right time.

I was absolutely delighted to be accepted on Net Galley to read and review this title; I am a huge fan of the ‘Adventures on Trains’ series and have loved the first 3 stories. com to record that I am either a Student, Parent, Nursery Teacher, Primary Teacher, Secondary Teacher, Literacy Coordinator, Librarian, Bookseller, Publisher or Other so that I can receive worldbookday. There was something very heart-warming about an uncle and his nephew solving mysteries together too.As with the previous novels the characters are well developed and the plot moves along at a good, convincing pace. A lifelong fan of puzzles, games, and detective fiction, he grew up with a railway at the bottom of his garden and has been mad about trains ever since. Op den duur begon ik me een idee te vormen van wie erachter zat, en ik bleek uiteindelijk ook gelijk te hebben, maar veel meer dan een vaag gevoel was het niet en ik had totaal niet zien aankomen waarom het die persoon was. There's lots to unravel within the book that will entertain 9 years to 11 year old children, which it is pitched at perfectly for. Hal and his Uncle Nat are back in their fourth adventure, Danger at Dead Man's Pass, and I couldn't have been more excited! The Adventures on Trains series is published in the UK and US by Macmillan, and is licensed to fifteen countries around the world, including China, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Latin America, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Spain and Sweden. The relationship between Hal and his Uncle also continues to develop and we find that Uncle Nat may not be all that he appears to be…. There's always an ensemble of distinct characters in these stories and it takes time to get to know them all, but here even by the end we weren't 100% clear on who was who and what their relationships were.
