Tertium Organum was rendered into English by Bragdon, who had incorporated his own design of the hypercube into the Rochester Chamber of Commerce building. The "my fourth way group is more esoteric/Gurdjieffian/cooler than your fourth way group" dynamic is out of control. For all the vastness and complexity of the material based upon these laws, however, it soon becomes clear that the most essential issue to be understood is the relationship of these laws to the nearly insoluble difficulty in which man finds himself—his prison of lies, fears, and self-deception, his state of sleep, and the need for him to begin the long and difficult work of awakening to himself and of developing in himself the powers and functions which are proper to man, the “crown of creation. But the book becomes more and more obtuse and really goes downhill after Ouspensky introduces this strange pretend chemistry that's way too precise and detailed to not be taken literally.
Some of the metaphysical theories were lost on me, such as the claims about the ways in which all organic life is connected and influenced by the sun and the planets, about humankind serving as food to the moon, etc. These are the Way of the Fakir, dealing exclusively with the physical body, the Way of the Monk, dealing with the emotions, and the Way of the Yogi, dealing with the mind. Ovviamente viene nominata anche la famosa Quarta Via, ma come già detto, le cose vengono dette ma non dette. Indeed it should be required reading for all politicians as it gives hundreds of examples of the ways (both aesthetic and medical) in which the natural world can help mankind and the inestimable losses we are facing by our destructive activities. Now the medicine man is being rapidly and conveniently reinvented as a knowledgeable mystic and healer in a sort of New Age version of the Noble Savage.Made by Twenty Twenty (part of the Shed Media group), it will be executive produced by Meredith Chambers and series produced by Pamela Gordon. Luckily, Gurdjieff told his students, there are ways to gain consciousness, and to in turn unlock one's full potential. Sometimes I agreed, sometimes disagreed, sometimes I learned something, sometimes I didn't understand at all, sometimes I felt angry, sometimes I tried to analyse it, then I skipped some pages, then there was something wise again, then when I understood I became frustrated, then I continued and tried to understand the enneagram, then I thought I did but I didn't, then I thought Ouspensky is just making stuff up, then I reminded myself that I don't have to understand everything but it's good that I got something valuable out of it. According to Gurdjieff, there are two major forces in the universe—the force by which the absolute manifests, which is a movement from higher to lower, from simplicity to complexity; and a movement back toward the source, a movement upward, toward the unity of simplicity. His yarn is refreshing because at no point is the reader subjected to a sales pitch or wild claims about the efficacy of natural products.
There now proceeds a discussion of the structure of the human organism seen in the light of the universal laws of the transformation of energy. although it was crammed with interesting facts, it was written more like a text book manual and did not contain enough personal aspects of his journey - it was like one barrage of facts after another.
Unbeknown to Ouspensky, a Russian émigré by the name of Nicholas Bessarabof took a copy of Tertium Organum to America and placed it in the hands of the architect Claude Bragdon, who could read Russian and was interested in the fourth dimension. Secondo Gurdjieff ogni cosa, dall'atomo all'Assoluto, può e deve essere divisa con la legge dell'ottava per essere compresa.
Transcripts of some of his lectures were published under the title of The Fourth Way in 1957; largely a collection of question and answer sessions, the book details important concepts, both introductory and advanced, for students of these teachings. He struggles to get along better with his single mom, and befriends the social outcast of the school, a silent boy named Anthony. I began reading with great curiosity, though it didn't take long for me to realize that this book would take me completely out of my comfort zone. Alcune parti sono scorrevoli e ho letto volentieri dell'incontro tra Gurdjieff e Ouspensky e di alcune parti dell'insegnamento.
It is thus easier and faster, but also, in another sense, far more difficult than the traditionally recognized methods of self-development. Accepting that my son has had to repeat instructions for a password program more than three times so I could finally grasp the concept. We actually require higher emotional energy to become conscious, and negative emotions drain us of this. The book also provided an original discussion on the nature and expression of sexuality; among other things, he draws a distinction between erotica and pornography.
If you know how to look you may find a third of this in all our culture’s most sacred texts but all of those came out from what we have still in our day not yet buried over (the primordial spring of perennial wisdom teachings from great school behind and within not yet awakened present man form: this work).
His metaphysics bears no resemblance to anything I've encountered before and I suspect he had a very active imagination. It includes enough of Ouspensky's personal comments and experiences to make an entertaining story, but it isn't a self-indulgent book about the author ("and then he said this to me, and then I said that to him. All in all, Ouspensky studied the Gurdjieff system directly under Gurdjieff's own supervision for a period of ten years, from 1915 to 1924. Ouspensky now begins the long, powerful portrayal of Gurdjieff’s teachings about the origin and structure of the universe, the laws behind the appearances, laws and forces that govern everything from the creation of galaxies to the movements of atoms to the energy transactions within the human organism.
