She has no idea quite what will happen next and whatever it is, it is sure to cause trouble in the family. The characters were interesting and well developed and the story was strong enough to keep me reading when I should have been somewhere else! Noticed another reviewer mentioned she disliked the way RJ often leaves the endings off words, ie, "nothin" instead of "nothing and "somethin", not "something". This heart-warming story about Grama Grace and her descendants is eventful and fraught with misunderstanding. Ruth Jones’ third novel is another warm, heartfelt story, filled with strong and joyful female characters that captures the challenges and joys of relationships and family. Female characters that cross over many generations always makes for a great read, and in this novel from Ruth Jones, her latest that is no exception. Also I loved that it is set in Wales, with such familiar and comforting use of the Welsh language and idioms, so reminiscent of my own upbringing. The depth of emotion between Judy, Chloe and baby Bobo is wonderful to watch, and in Love Untold this intergenerational maternal web is beautifully captured by Ruth Jones. Is she strong enough to reach out to her wayward daughter, now seventy years old, and heal the rift?
But Grace has recently received a postcard with a picture of Welsh hills on the front, painted by Alys Meredith. This review was written voluntarily and my rating was in no way influenced by the fact that I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel from Transworld Publishers, Random House UK, Bantam Press via NetGalley. A story of three generations, misunderstandings, heart break, rescue, love and ultimately coming together. A respected head teacher at the local school, Elin couldn't bear anyone to find out the truth about her mother. Meanwhile Grace’s great-grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own.
