Counterfeit: A Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick and New York Times BESTSELLER - the most exciting and addictive heist novel you’ll read this summer!
About this deal
Counterfeit is an entertaining, luxurious read — but beneath its glitz and flash, it is also a shrewd deconstruction of the American dream and the myth of the model minority. This starts as the confession to police of Ada, an ex-lawyer / SAHM / second generation Chinese American who has been drawn into a web of crime by an old friend involving a scheme to sell counterfeit designer handbags.
Well-written and cleverly-structured, the story revolves around two Chinese-American women, Winnie Fang and Ava Wong, who become involved in a scheme selling counterfeit luxury handbags. She had a lot on her plate because the majority of the time she’s raising her son with a nanny because her husband works as a surgeon.
I know I’ve talked on and on about how quick this book is and how easy of a read it is, but there are still some heavy topics within its pages. This was a slow read for me, I put it away for a while and came back to it which made it a little better, maybe I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind for it.
The rest is just rambling about menial, logistic, mundane life stuff that’s just so so boring, like the kind of stuff your older relatives would nag about… I keep waiting for it to “happen” and it never did.
