About this deal

It cooks brilliantly and runs very quietly (we recorded 50.4dB on test), with Quiet Mark certification, but inevitably there's a trade-off to get that smaller size. There's only one tray here, it doesn’t have a dehydrate setting, there’s no progress or text bar (instead, a small seven-segment screen displays the time, temperature, and cooking stage), and there’s no window nor a light. However it works well, it's built tough and it's really big inside –and we'll take that over a progress bar any time. One thing I make often now that I have an air fryer is pork chops. I’ve never had pork chops that stay so juicy as the ones I cook in the air fryer. I’m not sure if the misinformation being put out about needing oil for an air fryer steak is caused by people not testing their own recipes, or just not knowing how the Maillard reaction (browning of the exterior steak surface) actually works.I have found that the shorter the cook time on the recipe the more important it is to pre-heat, especially if you will be cooking multiple batches. Recipes with longer cooking times of 30 minutes or more are not generally as important to pre-heat as the cook time only changes by a minute or two. In a hot air fryer, the cooking times are not what you would expect when going into it at first. Depending on what you are cooking, the cooking times can be a little or a lot longer than deep fat frying, and a little or a lot less time than convection oven roasting / baking, and sometimes a little less or the same than pan frying. So, your instincts and eyeballs are going to be off.

While it is tempting to stuff that basket to the top (and many of the advertising photos show this) it is recommended to cook most things in a single layer, or with just a bit of overlap.

A meat thermometer will tell you when the inside of your joint, steak or fillet has hit the right temperature for the type of food avoiding the need to cautiously overcook, or risking undercooking, which can lead to illness. Not only does this result in cooking consistency, it also allows you to choose the right level of doneness, making that perfectly pink-in-the-middle leg of lamb achievable. Want to keep an eye on your food while it's cooking, but without opening the basket and letting out all the hot air? This Instant's latest air fryer is worth considering.

On the flip side, the Meater wireless thermometer has an app for your phone that’s incredibly easy to use and it has an alarm! Runs on 3V button battery which will need an added cost and hassle of replacement when it runs out. Now that you have got your head around our air fryer temperature guide then I am sure you want times too.

Oven-type air fryers come with one or multiple trays to place your food on and slot into the machine for cooking.

LARGE DIAL: The dial is easy to read and allows you to monitor your ingredients. You will be in complete control of the cooking process Don't pay over the odds for features that you'll rarely use. Consider this list before before you decide on a model. Digital timer When testing your own recipes, pre-heating will give you the most consistent results. Don’t Overcrowd the Basket A particular feature we loved is that there's a little beep half way through select cooking modes to remind you to shake the foods. You won't be able to cook two food types at the same time, though, and the controls are on the top so placing it on a high counter may not be the best position for it. Because of the temperature control that you have with an air fryer, you can control the degree of doneness within 1-2 degrees and have a perfectly cooked medium-rare steak, if that’s what your heart desires. It has a larger overall capacity than other Instant air fryers. However, it's worth remembering this is split across two frying baskets, so each basket holds a slightly smaller amount of food - meaning it won't be suitable for larger homes. Basically almost anything you can cook in the oven, you can also cook in the air fryer. My exceptions are stews, casseroles etc but only because my air fryer isn't big enough to fit a large pot. DO YOU HAVE TO PREHEAT AN AIR FRYER? Can it be repaired independently? If the warranty on your appliance has expired, find out whether any independent appliance repairs services will fix it for you. Research recommended and trusted traders in your area, and they may be able to come out and take a look for you. An average air fryer takes between 20 and 40 minutes to produce golden-brown chips – but our tests found significant differences between the worst and best models – some can take much longer than the average.
